Festus Abu, Kaliningrad
Barring any last minute changes, Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is expected to stick to the majority of his starting team against Czech Republic in their friendly affair for the Super Eagles’ Group D opening match against Croatia at the Kaliningrad Stadium on Saturday.
German coach Rohr started with a 4-2-3-1 formation in the 1-0 defeat to Czech, and progressed to a 3-5-2 style.
Our correspondent, who watched the team’s last training ahead of today’s clash on Friday, observed that the regulars were separated from the rest of the team.
Young goalkeeper Francis Uzoho is expected to be in goal, with Shehu Abdullahi at right-back and Brian Idowu at left-back.
Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong are expected in the central defence with Israel-based midfielder John Ogu and Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi in the defensive midfield position and Mikel Obi in front.
Alex Iwobi and Victor Moses will start from the wings. Rohr might have indicated that he has yet to decide who he will start in the top striking role between struggling Kelechi Iheanacho and Odion Ighalo as both forwards joined the regulars in the other half.
FIFA officials chased away journalists before the Eagles had a closed-door training session.
